Cycle South Africa’s Garden Route on this fully escorted small group tour. This 11-day cycling holiday is demanding but rewarding, and it highlights the very best of what the Garden Route has to offer.

 

Cycling 750km from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town, this tour covers up to 125km per day and includes all accommodations, breakfast daily, 7 x picnic style lunch packs, 7 dinners, water bottle refills throughout the day, all airport transfers, 7 cycling training tours with guide(s) and a support vehicle with luggage transportation.

 

ITINERARY

 

DAY 1

Arrive Port Elizabeth – Transfer to Hotel

The rest of the day is at leisure to relax and acclimatize.

DAY 2

Free Day Port Elizabeth

After a leisurely breakfast, you will have time to build your bikes, shop for any necessary spares or repairs, and take a short warm-up ride with your guide. At 6pm, there will be a short briefing before dinner.

DAY 3

Port Elizabeth to Jeffery’s Bay: Cycling Distance approximately 115km

After breakfast, we will check out of the hotel, load our luggage, and set off on our first Garden Route cycling adventure from Port Elizabeth to Jeffrey’s Bay. We’ll cover some 115km in total today along the coastline, through local villages, and on to South Africa’s surfers paradise Jeffreys Bay. You will have a few hours to relax before regrouping for dinner.

DAY 4

Jeffrey’s Bay to Tsitsikamma National Park: Cycling Distance approximately 110km

Today we head into the rich green countryside as we make our way to the Tsitsikamma Mountains and the National Park. We will cover approximately 110km today, with many flat stretches and a few climbs to test the legs. We will stop at Tsitsikamma Nation Park for refreshments, before loading the bikes and transferring to our hotel for dinner and overnight night.

DAY 5

Natures Valley – Brenton-on-Sea: Cycling Distance approximately 85km

After our morning routine of breakfast, hotel check out, and loading the support vehicle, we will leave The Crags behind and cycle down to Natures Valley. After a short climb out of the valley, we will continue our journey past Plettenberg Bay and Knysna to the unspoilt beach resort of Brenton-on-Sea where we will dinner and overnight.

DAY 6

Brenton-on-Sea to Oudtshoorn: Cycling Distance approximately 75km

To cover as much ground as possible today, our day will start with a +/- 1-hour transfer from Brenton-on-Sea to Wilderness, where we will start cycling on the old George to Knysna road that will take us up and over the impressive Outeniqua Pass to the Ostrich Capital of the world – Oudtshoorn. There are plenty of climbs today, and the scenery is breathtaking. After checking into our hotel in Oudtshoorn, we will have a few hours to relax before heading to a local restaurant for dinner.

DAY 7

Oudtshoorn to Ladismith: Cycling Distance approximately 100km

Today we’ll have the opportunity to climb some more as we cycle from Oudtshoorn to Ladismith via Calitzdorp. In Ladismith, we will load our bikes and drive to Swellendam, where we will enjoy a traditional South Africa Braai (BBQ) and overnight in one of the most beautiful properties on the Garden Route.

DAY 8

Swellendam to Hermanus: Cycling Distance approximately 110km

We will incorporate a little bit of sightseeing into our Garden Route adventure today. Departing directly outside the hotel, we will ride to the pretty town of Bredasdorp, before continuing to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of Africa. Here, we’ll load our bikes onto the trailer, kick off our cycling shoes, and walk down to the famous landmark for those all-important photos, before transferring to our hotel in Hermanus – the Whale Capital of South Africa for dinner and overnight.

DAY 9

Hermanus to Gordon’s Bay: Transfer to Cape Town: Cycling Distance approximately 85km

The last leg of our Garden Route Cycling Tour will take us along the spectacular Clarence Drive coastal road from Hermanus to Gordon’s Bay. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch on route before transferring to Cape Town for 2-nights in the Mother City.

DAY 10

Free Day Cape Town

Today you have a full day at leisure to do exactly as you please.

DAY 11

Departure

After breakfast today, you will have a few hours to shop for last-minute souvenirs before your driver collects you and returns you to the airport for your return flight home. ***End of Services***
